Alan Partridge, played by Steve Coogan, is a fictional broadcaster from Norwich. He first appeared in 1991 on BBC Radio 4 as a sports reporter in Chris Morris' On The Hour radio series. In 1992 he was given his own chat show, Knowing Me, Knowing You... with Alan Partridge, which also aired on Radio 4.

On The Hour was subsequently adapted for television, and Alan made his TV debut on The Day Today in January 1994. The same year, Knowing Me, Knowing You was also adapted for television, followed by a Christmas special, Knowing Me, Knowing Yule in 1995. Alan next appeared on screen in 1997 with I'm Alan Partridge, a "mock documentary" about Alan's post-KMKY career. This was followed by a second series in 2002.
